The Merry Wives of Windsor show will go on whatever the weather!

Jo and Angie

In an agreement announced today, Shropshire Drama Company’s (SDC) production of The Merry Wives of Windsor, due to start its run of six evening performances next Monday (11 June) at Much Wenlock Festival, will move from outside, where a stage and raked seating has been constructed on Holy Trinity Church Green, to inside the church in the event of bad weather.

Director Rosalind Garrard, said: ”While we remain optimistic about the week’s weather in the case of very heavy rain, we have arranged to hold performances inside the church. SDC has been very lucky with only one cancelled show since 1984 and a brief pause during Romeo & Juliet two years ago. The tradition of the festival play is that it is held outdoors in a fantastic setting, and SDC will do its utmost to uphold that. However, as the weather can be unpredictable and to make sure audiences are not disappointed, a contingency plan was required. We would like to thank the wardens at Holy Trinity Church for their support and cooperation. Come rain or shine, The Merry Wives of Windsor is full of a fun and we are looking forward to the opening night.”

An announcement about the respective venue will be made after 3pm each day next week on Shropshire Drama Company’s website: www.shropshiredramacompany.co.uk and via Twitter @ShropsDramaCo.

The Merry Wives of Windsor takes place from 11 to 16 June at Much Wenlock Festival. Tickets are available to book online at www.muchwenlockfestival.co.uk.
